Lauren Malloy is a food writer, chef and world traveler, and is most happy when doing all of these things at the same time. Lauren’s love affair with food began in high school when she worked as a busgirl in a Chinese restaurant and became enthralled with the daily ritual of the family meal served to staff and all three generations of the Chinese family living upstairs. Since then, Lauren has dipped her toes in many places in the culinary world, from restaurant gigs to food writing to marketing for restaurant clients.
Craving the knowledge and talent she so revered in her subjects, Lauren jumped into culinary school herself, completing a Kendall School of Culinary Arts degree and staging at many of the Chicago’s finest restaurants and caterers. Leaving to accept an Executive Chef position at Pura Vida Yoga resort in Dahlonega, Georgia, she developed healthy cooking menus for yoga retreat clients. Moving on to bigger culinary pastures, Lauren “auditioned” at Bellagio Resort in Las Vegas and landed a gig as the P.M. Master Cook for Garde Manger, where she learned how to make guacamole by the bucket and salad bowls out of parmesan cheese, among other unique talents.
Also while in Vegas, she developed curriculum for restaurant marketing and technology classes, which she taught at the Culinary Arts Institute of Las Vegas. Lauren holds an MBA from UCLA and has worked extensively in the corporate world as a project manager, consultant and trainer, talents she now channels towards producing awesome culinary experiences and adventures. Always the seeker, Lauren feels there is no end to what she can learn and share in her passion for food and the people, cultures and traditions that encompass it.
